Sync to a Website

Turn any Kurator collection into a live website gallery, built for you by an AI "vibe coding" tool such as Lovable, Bolt, Cursor or Replit.

Kurator gives you a ready-made set of setup instructions.

You paste them into the builder, and it creates the site and keeps it in sync with your collection.

Curate in Kurator. Build with Lovable. Publish on your site.

What you get

  • A gallery page showing every item in the collection.
  • One page per item, with its headline, description, author, publisher and date.
  • YouTube videos embedded on their pages, so visitors watch without leaving your site.
  • Articles and links shown with their image and description, linking out to the original.
  • Automatic updates. Add, edit or remove a link in the Kurator collection, and the site picks up the change on its next check.
  • Built to be found. The instructions tell the builder to make server-rendered pages with clean HTML, structured data (video, article and FAQ), a sitemap, and access for AI crawlers. That helps the pages show up in Google and AI answer engines such as ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews.

Before You Start

You'll need:

1. A Kurator plan that includes Publish Collections. How many collections you can publish, and how many sync downloads your site gets each month, depend on your plan.
2. A collection under Publish Collections with the links you want on the site.
3. An AI site builder account. Kurator's instructions were written with Lovable in mind, but any builder that can run server-side code and a database works.

Step by Step

Step 1: Open the sync panel
In the Kurator app, under Publish Collections, right-click the collection you want to publish and choose Sync to a website.

Step 2: Choose how often the site checks for updates
Pick Every 15 minutes, Every hour, Every 6 hours or Once a day. Hourly is plenty for most collections. Checks are free, and the site only downloads content when something has actually changed.

Step 3: Name the connection and generate it
Give the connection a name you'll recognize later (e.g. Marketing site) and click Generate connection. Kurator creates a private token for this collection.

Treat the token like a password. Anyone who has it can read this collection's content. The instructions tell the builder to keep it on the server and never in browser code. If it leaks, revoke it (see [Managing connections](#managing-connections)).

Step 4: Copy the setup instructions
Click Copy setup instructions. The copied text is a complete brief for the builder. It already includes your endpoint, your token and the check frequency you chose, along with the rules for how the site should sync, lay out pages, clean up descriptions and handle SEO.

Step 5: Paste it into your builder
Start a new project in Lovable (or your builder) and paste the instructions as your first message. Let it build. It sets up the database, the hourly (or whatever you chose) sync job, the gallery, and the item pages.

You can still ask for design changes afterwards ("use our brand colors", "add a header with our logo"). The sync and SEO rules don't need changing.

Step 6: Check the result
- Open the gallery. Every item should have a real thumbnail, and every video should play on its page.
- Add a test link to the collection in Kurator. It should appear on the site after the next check.
- Back in Kurator's sync panel, the connection's Last used column should now show a date.

Keeping the Site up to date

There's nothing to do. Curate in Kurator as usual:

Any link you add or edit in Kurator, will automatically sync to your website according to your update schedule.

The Your connections table in the sync panel lists every connection across all your collections:

- Show reveals the token again, if you need to re-paste it.
- Revoke cuts off that token immediately. Use it if a token leaks or you take a site down. To reconnect, generate a new connection and give the builder the new token.
- Checks shows the schedule you chose. Changing it here only updates Kurator's record, not the site. To change how often the site actually checks, also tell your builder, e.g. "Change the Kurator sync to run every 6 hours."
- Last used fills in once a site actually calls Kurator with that token. If your site is syncing but this says Never, the site is still using an older token.

Fixing or updating a site you already built

When you need to change one thing on a site that already exists, don't paste the full setup instructions again. The builder may treat them as a rebuild and undo changes you've made since.

Instead, send a short, targeted request:

1. Say what's wrong and what the rule should be.
2. If the fix affects items already on the site, ask for a one-time update of all existing items, because the normal sync only touches items that changed in Kurator.
3. Give one page to check afterwards.
4. End with "Change nothing else."

Troubleshooting

Symptom
Some video cards show a grey "video unavailable" thumbnail, but the video plays

What do to:
The site was built from an older version of the instructions. Ask your builder to resolve YouTube thumbnails during sync (try `maxresdefault.jpg`, then `sddefault.jpg`, then `hqdefault.jpg`), store the one that exists, and re-check all existing items. End with "Change nothing else."

Symptom
New links don't appear on the site

What to Do:
Check that you saved them into the published collection, and wait for the next scheduled check. If nothing arrives after that, ask the builder whether its scheduled sync job is running.

Symptom:
"Last used" says Never but the site has content

What to Do:
The site is using an older token. Revoke the old connection only after giving the builder the new token.

Symptom:
The site reports a rate limit error

What to Do:
It's checking or downloading far too often. Ask the builder to call `getFeedVersion` first and download only when the version changed, as the original instructions specify.Symptom:
You've used up your monthly downloads.

What to Do:
The site is re-downloading content that hasn't changed (the same fix as above), or you need a plan with more downloads.
